Report Description:
IMS Research, recently acquired by HIS Inc. (NYSE: HIS), has just published
the 2012 edition of the AC-DC & DC-DC Merchant Power Supplies report. The
findings from the report indicate that the merchant power supply market grew
to more than $20 billion in 2011, a first for the market. This is despite a
decline in the market in the second half of the year owing to a mixture of
cuts in investment and consumer spending due to global economic uncertainties
and large scale natural disasters such as the earthquake in Japan. One of the
largest surprises is that the EMEA region is calculated to have grown faster
than Asia for AC-DC non-commodity and DC-DC power supplies, partly due to
Western Europe being predicted to be an early adopter of LED lighting. Another
change to recent trends is that the DC-DC grew at a faster rate than the
non-commodity AC-DC market due to further recovery in the industrial markets
as well as continued grow in the server and storage markets. The market
decline however, was more severe in some markets, with the Industrial markets
being the worst affected in 2011.
The report includes forecasts to 2016 for the AC-DC and DC-DC merchant power
supply markets by application and region. Also included are 13 market share
