semiconductors market, covering components from MEMS microphones through the
data conversion stage to the output stage. Covering the complete audio stream
in one report allows the reader greater transparency into trends such as the
"digitization" of audio, shrinking digital process nodes and the focus on
energy management. Qualitative analysis of how these trends are affecting
component designs along with equipment shipment forecasts are provided to
provide revenue, shipment and ASP forecast for audio ICs in the different
end-user market sectors and sub-sectors.
This market is being influenced by several major paradigm shifts in the way
consumers acquire, store, and listen to audio media and how the manufacturers
are responding to this consumer shift:
- Audio media playback is becoming a more discrete solution, with a
connected digital media storage unit that could be local or in the internet.
- Audio reception is shifting from analog broadcast to digital stream, and
this affects the design decision as to when to convert the signal back to
analog for the human ear.
- Energy management in portable devices is affecting the audio component by
encouraging more class D solutions.
- Semiconductor process nodes are shrinking into a realm not compatible with
