Abstract
Report Summary
IMS Research has published the third edition of its highly respected UPS
Sourcebook, specially prepared for component vendors. The report provides a
concise picture of the current state and future development of the market
complied from IMS Research' s extensive UPS studies.
The global economic downturn caused the world UPS market to decline by 21.3%
in 2009, though revenues will grow by nearly 10% in 2010. Pre-recessionary
demand levels are not projected to return until 2012.
Just over 15 million UPS were shipped in 2009, with <1 kVA units accounting
for the largest share of unit shipments.
Asia, ‘Rest of EMEA’, and Western Europe all fell by more than the
global average in 2009, while North America and Latin America declined by a
lesser percent.
High power sales will be sluggish to recover, as data center investment is
slow to return. In the longer term, >100 kVA sales are most promising.
Transformerless UPS are forecast to grow at the fastest rate of any topology,
and will nearly double in revenues by 2014.
The top three suppliers to the UPS market accounted for over half of global
revenues in 2009. Emerson' s bid to acquire Chloride follows the trend toward
consolidation in the market.
