Abstract

Report Summary

IMS Research has published the fifth edition of its highly respected global UPS market assessment. Market data and forecasts are derived from actual reported sales data and extensive interviews with top UPS manufacturers around the world.

Some Key Findings Include:

  • The global economic downturn caused the world UPS market to decline by 21.3% in 2009, though revenues will grow by nearly 10% in 2010.
  • Russia, Central & Eastern Europe, and Japan were some of the hardest hit regions worldwide, while Latin America performed comparatively well.
  • Countries within Asia are seeing rapid growth and will lead the recovery. In 1Q10 total Asia UPS revenues were up over 25% from last year.
  • High power sales will be sluggish to recover, as data center investment is slow to return. In the longer term, >100 kVA sales are most promising.
  • Non-IT applications for UPS are prominent in emerging regions such as Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
  • The top three suppliers to the UPS market accounted for over half of global revenues in 2009.
  • Emerson' s bid to acquire Chloride follows the trend toward consolidation in the market.

Features of this report include:

  • 27 sub-regions each examined by three power ranges with regional market growth adjusted for exchange rates where applicable
  • Revenue and unit market sizes derived from actual sales data contributed by leading suppliers to the global market
  • Revenue, unit sales, and AUP data for 9 power ranges, at global and regional levels
  • Market share tables for all major regions by topology and power rating; 72 tables in total
  • Regional UPS markets analyzed by four product topologies and energy storage technology
  • All revenues globally and regionally analyzed by sales channel, with the direct-to-end user channel further split into 10 vertical markets
  • A new analysis of IT versus non-IT applications for UPS by major region
