Abstract
Mobile operators should look to partner with other companies that own
specialist knowledge and technology in both m-commerce and e-commerce to
develop and deploy secure and attractive services for their subscribers.
Summary
The growing interest in m-commerce is reflected by the increasing number of
service announcements and market activity that includes partnerships, mergers
and acquisitions as well as the launch of new platforms and solutions by value
chain players. A successful suite of m-commerce services can help the
operators strengthen their position in the mobile content and services value
chain.
Overview
The major players in the m-commerce value chain are strengthening their
position through strategic acquisitions and partnerships with other leading
and innovative companies. These developments are expected to lead to
accelerated growth in the deployment and adoption of m-commerce services in
the coming years. There will be " first-mover" benefits for those operators
and service providers that are early to market with mobile wallet and
m-commerce services as they will create greater subscriber stickiness for
their network and more churn from their competitors.
This report analyses the prospects for the growth of m-commerce services,
examining the economic, technological and strategic drivers, as well as the
constraints to this market's development. It evaluates various user cases and
the business opportunities presented by mobile banking, payments, money
transfer, and NFC services for mobile operators, handset and OS vendors,
payment service/network providers, banks, and technology and platform vendors.
