About Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress is a state of imbalance caused in cells when a free radical or a reactive oxygen species takes an electron from a molecule and causes a chain reaction leading to cell and tissue damage. Oxidative stress is common in all living organisms and is acceptable to a certain level, beyond which it leads to several biological imbalances and disorders due to the damage it causes to the proteins, lipids, and the DNA in the cells. The condition is usually controlled by the introduction of antioxidants into the body.
