About Gallium Arsenide Wafer

A wafer in the semiconductor industry is also known as a substrate. This thin slice of material is made from components such as silicon as well as compound semiconductor materials such as gallium nitride (GaN) and gallium arsenide (GaAs). These wafers are used for the fabrication of integrated circuits (ICs) and also to develop solar cells in photovoltaics. A microelectronic device is built in and over this wafer (acts as a base) by undergoing several fabrication steps such as ion implantation, etching, deposition, and lithography. The microelectronic devices or circuits formed are finally packaged to prevent corrosion and ensure 100% functionality. GaAs wafers are made using the elements of gallium and arsenic. GaAs can be manufactured using industrial processes such as vertical gradient freeze (VGF), Bridgman-Stockbarger technique, and liquid encapsulated Czochralski (LEC) growth.
