About 3D terrestrial laser scanning

Scanners are measuring instruments based on lasers. Terrestrial laser scanning is a new and efficient method of digitization data related to large objects for surveys. It enables capturing of complex geometric data from buildings, objects, and machines. Laser scanners are used for topographical surveys to provide deliverables such as spatial cloud data, DEM, DTM, contour maps, raw data, and technical analysis. It is a ground-based technique for measuring the position and dimensions of different objects in 3D.

3D scanning is the process of capturing digital information regarding the shape of objects and converting them into digital models using lasers or structured light. It offers advantages such as reduction in cost and wastage, increased efficiency, faster completion schedules, improved information flow, improved decision making, and enhanced quality control. The hardware collects digital information and creates a point cloud, while software converts the point cloud into 3D models with a high degree of accuracy.
