About Digital Still Camera

A digital camera is an optical device used to capture and store images and videos in digital format. The different types of digital cameras include built-in lens cameras, such as point-and-shoot cameras, and interchangeable lens cameras, such as digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras and mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras (MILC). A DSLR camera works on a unique reflex design scheme that combines optics with the mechanism of a single-lens reflex (SLR) camera having a digital imaging sensor. An MILC provides an interchangeable lens mount; it does not have a mirror reflex optical viewfinder. The popularity of digital photography is contributing to the sales of digital cameras worldwide. Global statistics has indicated that more than 400 billion images have been captured per year since 2010.
