Surface active agents are popularly known as surfactants. Surfactants are materials that can significantly reduce the surface tension between two liquids or between a solid and a liquid. They display hydrophilic and lipophilic properties. Foaming, detergency, dispersion, penetration, and wetting effect are the important characteristics of surfactants. Based on their application, they are mixed with pH boosters or builders.
