Unmanned underwater vehicles are of two types Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles, main difference being that AUV does not require continuous human interference or control and operates according to the pre-programmed instructions while the ROV is controlled via an umbilical cord. Defense and government, academic and scientific research, commercial activity and retrieval systems are the major application where unmanned underwater vehicles are used.

The CAGR for the unmanned underwater vehicles market for the period 2015-2020 is estimated to be around 11%. Operations and sales market for Remotely Operated Vehicles and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles is also studied and estimated in the report.
