Abstract
This report presents forecast of large-area TFT-LCD panel makers' capacity by
production location and market demand by application over the period 1Q 2009
to 1Q 2010. Also included are supply and demand sufficiency ratio by panel
area and unit. This report finds that in the fourth quarter of 2008, overall
global production capacity growth slowed down. After the first quarter of
2009, Taiwanese manufacturers are increasing inventory levels to accommodate
brand-name vendors, and are gradually increasing capacity utilization rates.
Korean manufacturers LGD and Samsung will be using their full capacities to
prepare for the shipment peak season in the third quarter. Meanwhile, AUO,
LGD, Samsung and Sharp are all planning to start production on high-generation
production lines, and the supply/demand situation will therefore face new
challenges in the second half of 2009.
