From 2011 to 2015, there has been a declining birth rate of less than 1% per year in the United States. On average, there were just under 4 million births per year during this period. Every newborn has to be medically checked and evaluated by medical staff. Simultaneously, the baby needs to remain warm and has to learn to regulate its own temperature. To help start the checking processes and retain body temperature, the baby is placed into an infant warmer. Heat is provided from an overhead heater, and the mattress can be heated as well. If the baby is healthy, it only stays in this warmer for a few hours before it goes home. These warmers are available in various types and styles. More medical-related features like resuscitation can be added, or the warmer can be customized with aesthetic options based on a hospital's preferences: for example, a wood trim.

Although there has been a slight decrease in birth rate, it has been estimated that potential decreases in incubator sales due to this decline in birth rate has been offset by the relatively stable incidence of neonates requiring additional medical intervention at birth and the increasing rates of pre-term births. One significant trend that will drive the warmer and incubator market is sales in the convertible bed market. While these devices are much more expensive than a warmer or incubator, these units are able to work as both, saving the hospital space and reducing the cost of purchasing both types of devices. There has also been movement towards larger hospitals purchasing more premium beds that have more technological amenities such as silent alarms and aesthetic add-ons that improve the comfort of the child and parents. These trends are causing an increase in the ASP of these devices, which will drive market growth over the forecast period.
