Several different types of chairs exist. The majority of these chairs are fixed chairs; they are locked to the ground. Another type is the mobile or adjustable gynecological chair; these chairs have the capability to be moved around and can be converted into a table as well. Every chair has movable footrests. These chairs can be found in gynecology and obstetrics offices, as well as in hospitals and women's centers. In the past, not all chairs were powered. Today, most chairs are powered, which makes it easier to change the height and rotate the seat so that the patient is at the proper working height.

Both fixed and adjustable gynecological chairs are growing at steady rates, with adjustable chairs maintaining the largest portion of market share due to their higher ASP. This is a mature market that is driven by replacement units. These chairs often last between 7 and 12 years before needing replacement and typically require minimal service over their lifetimes. Since 2012, this market has lost several competitors and is now dominated by a few select companies leading to a non-competitive market.
