Integration components, also known as routers, hubs or racks, are dedicated devices that serve as the centralized control center for an integrated OR. These devices are able to control equipment settings in the OR, as well as receive and relay inputs from video and other data sources.

Hybrid ORs are specialized integrated rooms with a fixed imaging system and associated with an image guided surgical table that for the most part is fully integrated with the imaging system. This is the most modern definition of a hybrid OR but over time it is likely that this will change as the evolution of high tech integration progresses.

The operating rooms are usually a profit center for hospitals and ASCs, so the total U.S. market for integrated ORs is expected to grow steadily over the forecast period. Hospitals are realizing the benefit of installing integrated ORs, which also supplements growth in the market.

The installed base for hybrid ORs is much smaller compared to the total integrated OR installed base due to the fact that hybrid ORs have only recently become a driving force in this market. The cost of a hospital to build a brand new hybrid OR is titanic.
