Abstract
This IDC study presents the results and analysis of IDC' s Asia/Pacific
(Excluding Japan) Software Exclusive Survey 2008, conducted among 1,087
participants across the key countries in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or
APEJ, particularly Australia, Korea, the People' s Republic of China (PRC), and
India. The findings of the survey, as discussed in this study, provide insight
into the current awareness level, adoption trends, and future outlook on small
and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises in different APEJ
markets for IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) as a best practice. The findings
outline an encouraging trend for SMBs as they start to show more awareness of
and weight for ITIL adoption. The PRC and India are driving the adoption trends
compared with Australia and Korea, probably due to varying levels of IT
maturity within these key countries.
"As IT begins to take on more pillar roles in APEJ businesses, the complexity
of the IT environment scales with it, resulting in the need to better manage
resources and streamline the processes involved where IT meets business," says
Adren Lim, market analyst, Software, IDC Asia/Pacific. "As such, ITIL should
prove its worth when addressing cost efficiency, improved productivity, and
risk management elements," he adds.
