The new ERM applications forecast in this study concludes the following:European organizations are using digital transformation to become lean and efficient as well as provide better customer experience. With a widening spectrum of choices around cloud-based solutions that combine quicker implementations and reduced capital expenditure, this approach has become very realistic. Improved end-user service is also possible with the consumerization of ERM applications via redesigned user interfaces and mobility. Coupling this with aging on-premise infrastructure creates new investment opportunities and fuels market growth.Smaller businesses are discovering the value proposition of packaged solutions that now offer a software as a Service (SaaS) model with a more flexible subscription model, ease of use, new user interfaces, and better user experiences. The Western European ERM market outlook with some functional markets is showing robust growth in excess of 6% year on year, while other more mature markets (such as order management and payroll accounting) are growing slightly over 3%.As in the previous forecast, the human capital management (HCM) applications market is expected to have the strongest growth and is forecast to grow 10.5% for the next year. Other fast-growing markets include procurement (7.2%) as well as project and portfolio management (6.8%).The divide between northern and southern European economies is again evident, with stronger growth rates in the U.K., Germany, and Nordics, while Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Spain are lagging in terms of growth rates both in the overall ERM market and in the majority of functional markets. The SaaS ERM segment grew in 2015 and now represents 19% of the total market with 33% growth, surpassing $2.6 billion. In addition, IDC forecasts a 2016-2020 CAGR of 19.6% for this segment. This IDC study provides analysis and sizing of the Western European ERM applications market for 2013-2015 and a forecast for 2016-2020. The study segments the ERM applications market by functional market (eight functional markets), deployment model (SaaS and on-premise), and country. This year's forecast replaces IDC's Western Europe ERM Applications Forecast, 2015-2019 .

"The increasing adoption of cloud services, coupled with a higher demand for self-service applications and digital transformation projects, has been driving the Western European ERM market in a path of modest growth. Increased involvement from lines of business in the IT budget spending decision making is also creating new priorities and a set of new requirements that vendors are asked to meet. Several functional markets within the ERM market are maturing, thus exhibiting slower growth as a result of past investments. Other functional markets such as HCM are showing more growth potential buoyed by digital transformation projects; new ways to engage, evaluate, and train employees; and plan succession," said Bo Lykkegaard, associate vice president, IDC European Software.
