This IDC study analyzes the global telecom capital expenditure pattern for the financial year 2015. The network operators in the advanced markets continue their efforts in making their network future-ready by investing on virtualization and digital infrastructure. Telcos on the other side of the spectrum continue to improve their 3G coverage along with setting up new 4G/LTE network in phases eventually building up the momentum for increased adoption of mobile data among their consumers.According to Venkatesh Mahale, assistant manager, Worldwide Telecommunications Research, "Operators' cumulative investments in the next five years are estimated to be about $1.7 trillion, predominantly toward cloud-based technologies coupled with big data until 2018 and 5G network buildout thereafter."
