This IDC study forecasts smartphone, tablet, and handheld game console users, installed bases, and revenue through 2020. North America is broken out from Western Europe, Asia/Pacific (including Japan), and a combined rest of the world (ROW) region. iOS and Android gaming dynamics are considered in some depth, as is the Nintendo versus Sony dynamic on handheld platforms. Hardware revenues for Nintendo and Sony are included, but not for smartphones and tablets used for gaming."The sheer scale of mobile gaming is perhaps what's most impressive about this market, and total revenue is poised to grow at more than 10% per year through 2020, which will make it the largest segment of the global video games industry by a wide margin at that point.
