This IDC study provides an overview and analysis of M&A deals in 2Q15 across all major sectors of the information and communication technology (ICT) industry, including enterprise IT infrastructure, telecommunications, enterprise applications, IT services, semiconductors and components, and digital media. It also discusses the different business, financial, and technology trends affecting M&A activities in the ICT industry.
"2Q15 was another record quarter for ICT M&A activity with total disclosed deal value crossing the $200 billion mark for the first time since 2000. Total M&A spending in the first half of 2015 reached a whopping sum of nearly $400.0 billion -- almost the same as the total spending in full year 2014. While it's unlikely that these levels will become the new normal, the outlook for ICT M&A activity remains highly positive. Unless global economic conditions deteriorate, the combination of unprecedented growth opportunities in 3rd Platform-related technology fields; the ongoing consolidation in major markets such as telecom, semiconductors, and hosting infrastructure; and the availability of private capital will continue to fuel the M&A boom." - Dan Yachin, research director, IDC EMEA Emerging Technologies.
