This IDC study draws on the results of the IDC European Vertical Markets Survey, which was carried out between August and October 2014. The survey analyzes the key IT priorities and plans in the top 5 Western European countries (i.e., France, Germany, Italy, the U.K., and Spain). This study focuses on vertical markets' current and future IT solutions adoption, with a specific focus on ERP, CRM, UC, business intelligence/analytics, document life-cycle management, and storage technologies. It also analyzes investment trends for these solutions (i.e., investments that go beyond the maintenance of existing solutions that can be on-premises or on the cloud).
Results are provided for the whole of Western Europe and analyzed by company size (10-49, 50-99, 100-249, and 250-499 employees) and vertical market (financial services, process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing, healthcare, telecom/media, utilities/oil and gas, retail/wholesale, professional services/transport, and government/education).
"There are no differences between the propensity to invest beyond maintenance in software solutions during 2015 between SMBs and large enterprises. As with bigger organizations, the percentage of SMBs that will invest in their existing software solutions beyond maintenance will be much higher than in the past three years," said Giacomo Laurini, senior research analyst, IDC European Industry Solutions. "Furthermore, almost 45% of Western European SMBs will invest beyond maintenance in three or more solutions; the same goes for large enterprises. Only companies with 10-49 employees appear to have a low propensity to invest in more than one solution."
