This IDC study presents an in-depth analysis of China's ecommerce industry in 2013. It summarizes the general situation of the development and scale of the industry in the said year and dissects the ecommerce ecosystem before clarifying the competitive landscape, characteristics, and performance of different ecommerce models; and the strategies of major ecommerce operators, all based on the analysis of comprehensive data. Meanwhile, it also includes an informative and insightful survey of the mobile ecommerce market from the perspectives of market scale, structure, and trends. Finally, it provides forecasts and the future outlook of the China's ecommerce industry in the next five years, and a brief analysis of the key developments in the ecommerce market.

"China's ecommerce market maintained a strong growth in 2013, recording RMB 10.1 trillion in total sales, up 31.6% YoY, accounting for 17.9% of the China's gross domestic product (GDP) during the year. IDC expects the China's ecommerce market to grow by 20.8% YoY to RMB 12.4 trillion in 2014, making the industry one of the most powerful drivers of China's economic growth. In August 2013, the State Council, in support of ecommerce development, issued the Several Opinions on Promoting Information Consumption and Boosting Domestic Demand. In August 2014, the State Council issued the Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Production-Type Service Industries to Promote Restructuring and Enhancement of the Industrial Structure, in which it emphasized again policy support for ecommerce development. Driven by market forces and policy support, IDC expects China's ecommerce industry to maintain a high-speed growth in the next five years, and the ecommerce turnover to reach RMB 18 trillion by 2018, representing a CAGR of 12% from 2013 to 2018," said Jialin Jiang, senior analyst, Vertical Industry Research and Consulting, IDC China.
