This IDC study examines results of IDC's fall 2014 Commercial PC Buyer Survey, looking specifically at the split between respondents from companies of fewer than 100 employees and larger companies. To participate in our survey, respondents had to confirm that they make PC purchasing decisions for their company. Conducted online in October 2014, the survey polled participants about their companies' current commercial PC use and future plans. Using a Web hosting firm, we surveyed 2,509 respondents from Brazil, China, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

"Small businesses take a sharply different view on PC purchases than large companies, and PC vendors and channels need to tailor their approach to respond to the greater focus on cost and performance taken by that market. Even as the power of the PC diminishes within large companies, small companies continue to prefer traditional notebook and desktop tower form factors for the value that they deliver," says Jonathan Gaw, IDC's research manager, Connected Home.
