This IDC study examines wearable devices (commonly referred to as wearables), including ownership, usage, and desired brands of wearable devices, in the United States. Data was collected from December 14 to December 30, 2014, with a total of 1,122 participants.
"The wearables market is in its initial stages in the United States, but the results of this survey show positive steps," says Ramon T. Llamas, research manager for IDC's Wearables team. "Ownership is spread out across multiple vendors, usage is high for most categories, and consumers are open to purchasing wearable devices from multiple vendors too. What remain to be seen are how the addition of more vendors with new devices could change the competitive landscape and how well they will be received by consumers."
