This IDC study examines the U.S. results of IDC's fall 2014 Commercial PC Buyer Survey. To participate in our survey, respondents had to confirm that they make PC purchasing decisions for their company. Conducted online in October 2014, the survey polled participants about their companies' current commercial PC use and future plans. Using a Web hosting firm, we surveyed 2,509 respondents worldwide, of which 500 of them are from the United States.

"PCs continue to be a mainstay device of enterprises, but their power is diminishing. Companies are moving incrementally toward smaller form factors for both desktops and PCs, indicating that enterprises are placing a greater value on portability and size, rather than incrementally more power and device-resident capabilities. IT purchasers also have expressed a willingness to pay more for devices that offer flexibility and an openness to consider incremental changes in their PC device mix. However, they also signaled a continued move away from PCs in terms of overall spending," said Jonathan Gaw, IDC's research manager, Connected Home covering devices, displays, and connected consumer applications.
