This IDC study details the growth in spending by small office (<10 employees), small business (10-99 employees), and midmarket (100-999 employees) firms on public IT cloud software, solutions, and services (broadly categorized as "services"). Spending in U.S. dollars is compiled from IDC's Worldwide Semiannual Public Cloud Services Spending Guide and is presented by major category for the United States and worldwide. This forecast does not include spending associated with hybrid, private, or any other combination of nonpublic IT cloud services and does not quantify spending for on-premise IT."Since enterprise software vendors have shifted to a SaaS-first innovation and delivery model, SMB customers will have little reason to renew perpetual software licenses and incur maintenance fees associated with on-premise deployment," said Chris Chute, vice president, IDC SMB Cloud and Mobility Practice. "SMB customers can now be exposed to cloud IT capabilities beyond point products. Whether it be mobility service suites, cloud-based HR or salesforce management functions, or customizable ERP, SMBs now have the ability to utilize public cloud delivery to transform their business processes."
