This IDC study presents an update on the mobile phone market in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, along with the market sizes for 2014 and forecast data for 2015-2019. Research for market sizing and forecasting was carried out from January to March 2015. Breakdowns by vendor, country, operating system (OS), and air interface are also included to provide greater insights into the APEJ dynamics.

"In 2014, Chinese and local vendors were extremely aggressive and shipped high volumes of smartphones in the emerging Southeast Asian markets. They focused on <US$100 smartphones, targeted first-time smartphone users, and ate into the share of global vendors. This helped to propel the growth of smartphones in 2014. This trend will continue in 2015, and we expect to see more vendors coming up with unique ways to differentiate and sell their products in the market," says Tay Xiaohan, senior market analyst, Client Devices, IDC Asia/Pacific.
