This IDC Insight highlights recent developments in bringing near-field communications (NFC) closer to reality. Besides looking at the activities in Australia, we also look at trends in other markets, particularly at cases where there are clearer plans and partnerships to deploy NFC services in the near future.
Mobile industry players have put their act together to define the standard for the SIM-based NFC, which paves the way for manufacturers to start producing NFC-capable devices. However, there isn't a standardized approach to commercialise NFC services, since different players in the NFC ecosystem take different views of how they could benefit from this technology.
