This IDC study presents IDC's Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, service provider (SP) capex and opex services forecast. The market size and forecast are presented across 13 markets, namely Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. IDC forecasts that APEJ capex and opex services revenue will grow at 2.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from US$17.60 billion in 2011 to US$19.4 billion in 2015, while total equipment spending including services will decline slightly at 1.8% CAGR over the same period from US$51.38 billion in 2011 to US$47.79 billion in 2015. "While many service providers are reducing their capex spending back toward 2007 and 2008 levels, the opportunity for opex services is healthy as service providers are under considerable pressure to better streamline their overall opex. As a result, carriers are looking to a combination of advanced network architectures to reduce capex spending and on the opex side to services such as multivendor maintenance and outsourcing. While China will continue to see modest growth in capex services and shun managed services due to the large ecosystem of system engineering and design resources in affiliate companies of the big three national carriers, India will see substantial growth in capex and opex services as the larger carriers seek to improve their business models," says Bill Rojas, director, Telecom Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
