This IDC study (a translation of the Japanese report IDC #Japanese report IDC #J11260108), presents the forecasts for 10 product segments in the Japan support market as defined by IDC based on the major trends as of September 2011. We examine the trends in 2010 and forecast the market sizes and growth rates from 2011 to 2015. In addition, we also analyze the results of the IDC user survey conducted in August 2011, examine the moves of major support vendors in Japan, and provide suggestions for service vendors.

The strategy adopted by many companies to cut IT cost by shifting to datacenter and cloud services have had various impacts on the products targeted by the support services market. Needs are changing and gradually shifting toward support services for cheaper, but more product units distributed across multiple locations, and support for systems integrating on-premises and cloud. "It will be necessary for vendors to review the value of their support services in response to changes brought about by growing cloud usage. To provide high value-added services in increasingly complex system environments, vendors should seek to improve the technological capabilities of their CEs, and transform their roles," says Akiko Takei, market analyst, Services, IDC Japan.
