目錄

This IDC study provides forecasts for the storage solutions that are evolving to address the explosion in the creation, archiving, and continual reuse of rich content and machine-generated data: file-based storage solutions. It provides insights into the forces that drive spending on storage hardware and software used in file servers, scale-up NAS solutions, and scale-out file/object storage solutions. It also discusses how demands for storage solutions to support converged IT infrastructure and archive environments will shape file-based storage requirements.

Total spending on storage systems, gateways, and software (with supporting servers) for file-based storage will increase 14.8% to $20.1 billion in 2012. Storage industry players that want to take advantage of developments in cloud, archive, and Big Data markets must further expand their portfolio of file- and object-based storage solutions and supporting services. They must also engage in more vertically targeted go-to-market efforts.

"The management and organization of file-based information will become the primary task for many datacenter planners and administrators as they address the four major IT trends of cloud, mobility, social business, and Big Data. Extracting value from this expanding universe of file- and object-based information, including through online content delivery, digital archiving, and continual reanalysis (Big Data), is becoming a core business mandate." - Richard Villars, vice president, Storage and IT Executive Strategies
