This IDC study examines the network security market, which consists of the firewall, unified threat management (UTM), intrusion detection and prevention (IDP), and virtual private network (VPN) technology markets. It provides vendor shares for 2010 and forecasts by individual market for 2011-2015. "Network security remains an essential component of an organization's IT architecture and will continue to see strong growth moving forward," said John Grady, senior analyst for IDC's Security Products program. "With threats to the network becoming more sophisticated and companies demanding more robust, affordable, and flexible solutions, it is imperative for vendors to continue to offer innovative products that fulfill multiple requirements to remain competitive.
