This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J11150105, analyzes the impact of smartphones and media tablets on the PC market, and presents a classification of PCs and smartphones/media tablets according to usage as well as the PC usage trends of consumer users based on the survey conducted by IDC in June 2011. "There is an impression that the conflict between smartphones/media tablets and consumer PCs are too many. However, users at various stages recognize the different usage purposes of these devices," says Hirotoshi Asano, senior market analyst, PC, Mobile and Client Solution, IDC Japan.
