This IDC study presents 1H11 broadband subscriber results for the leading U.S. service providers across the cable and telco segments. "Cable operators and telcos are still slugging it out for subscribers in the U.S. broadband services market. In 2Q11, cable operators added 329,000 new customers, compared with only 106,000 new customers for telco broadband services. In fact, the gap between cable modem and telco broadband subscribers continues to widen - expanding from 7 million customers in 2Q10 to almost 8 million subscribers in 2Q11 - with cable positioned as the leader of the fixed broadband market for the foreseeable future," said Amy Lind, research manager with IDC's United States Consumer Multiplay and Broadband Services program.
