Abstract
This IDC study reviews the performance of the worldwide PC
market during the first quarter of 2011 (1Q11). It looks
at the market performance of desktop and portable PCs in
major geographies, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) (APEJ), and the rest of the world (ROW).
Details on unit shipments, market value, and average selling prices
are provided, along with a review of the competitive landscape
of the top PC vendors.
"The morphing of PCs and media
tablets is an idea that is well advanced among many
OEMs. We believe concepts such as hybrid systems, featuring what
may look like a standard productivity notebook and a detachable
media tablet display, could spur new interest in the market
post-2011. Such models already exist, but the business models are
not in place yet," says Rajani Singh, research analyst, United
States Quarterly PC Tracker.
