Abstract

This IDC study forecasts the U.S. online PC gaming market through 2015. A comparison of current online PC gaming business models, buttressed by survey data, is used to inform how the market should evolve over the next several years.

"Casual online PC gaming in particular is a remarkably dynamic market that' s poised for significant growth in the next few years," says Lewis Ward, research manager of IDC' s Gaming Service. "Although MMOGs and full-game downloads are also critical segments, the microtransaction- and ad-centric business models typified by Zynga' s Facebook games are positioned to substantially alter the revenue and online PC gamer mix by 2015."
