Abstract
This IDC Buyer Case Study looks at the U.S. Department
of Homeland Security and its use of the Xceedium GateKeeper
appliance for achieving privileged identity management.
IDC defines PIM as the
implementation, restriction, and management of privileged identities. Privileged user accounts
are the most powerful accounts defined within critical applications and
the servers, operating systems, and databases on which they run.
These include, but are not limited to, generic accounts such
as Administrator on Wintel platforms, Root on Unix systems, Cisco
Enable, DBA passwords, and the hard-coded passwords found in application
scripts throughout an enterprise. Privileged identity management encompasses privileged password
management technologies, such as reset rules and synchronization, and adds
the ability to provide critical levels of auditable granularity in
a scalable fashion, especially in large-scale computing environments.
