Abstract
This IDC study leverages the results of two new surveys
of video game console players/owners to estimate the likely sales
and installed bases for Microsoft Kinect, Sony PlayStation 3 Move,
and Nintendo Wii MotionPlus controllers/sensors in the United States through
the first quarter of 2011.
"The impact of advanced motion controllers/sensors
on console gaming will be felt profoundly this holiday season
in the United States," says Lewis Ward, research manager of
IDC' s Gaming Service. "Microsoft' s Kinect and Sony' s Move accessories will
undoubtedly make significant headway against Nintendo' s Wii MotionPlus, but our
surveys don' t suggest either will be a smash hit."
