Abstract

This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9440104, analyzes the Japan storage-as-a-service market revenue performance in 2008 as well as forecasts from 2009 to 2013. IDC separates the storage-as-a-service market into two service types, namely primary data storage service and backup and archive service. The market structure and growth factors of the two service types is analyzed and a market forecast is presented for the period up to 2013.

"The Japan storage-as-a-service market in 2008 continued to enjoy a robust growth despite the economic downturn. This was due to social demands for improved security and governance and this trend may increase further along with the recovery in corporate business performance. New data backup services have been launched increasingly since 2007 and the numbers will increase in the future. These services will be important solutions for data protection and business continuity measures in small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs)," says Yasusuke Suzuki, research manager, Storage Systems, IDC Japan.
