Abstract
This IDC study presents the storage software market in CEE
for 2008 and forecasts expenditure on storage software applications through
2013. The study contains market size, vendor market shares, and
forecasts for eight functional categories. It also ranks the major
storage software providers by their 2008 revenues and includes profiles
of their activities and presence in individual countries and vertical
markets.
The study aims to answer the following questions:
- What is the
current size of the storage software market in CEE?
- Which storage
software segments are most important? What is the current focus
of spending?
- What are IDC' s projections for spending on storage software,
and what are the assumptions for the forecast numbers? What
impact will these have on market developments?
- Who are the market
leaders based on license and maintenance revenue, and what are
their strengths, weaknesses, and strategies for the future?
- Which industry sectors
are the most important sources of demand for storage software
applications? What are the future trends in this area?

financial crisis began to affect CEE markets in Q4 2008,
although the effect was not entirely negative: In many cases,
investments accelerated as IT departments rushed to spend budgets before
they were frozen and out of fear that they would
not again have budgets to spend any time soon. Those
fears have been realized in many cases, and the prognosis
for 2009 is considerably gloomier, with no return to double-digit
growth anticipated before 2011. Data protection and recovery solutions remain
the bedrock of the market; nevertheless, cost-saving technologies such as
storage virtualization and data deduplication are becoming increasingly attractive to
cash-strapped end users and will continue to proliferate rapidly on
