Abstract
This IDC study reviews the tablet PC market with new
historical data for 2008 and the first half of 2009.
It forecasts through 2013, and looks at the market performance
of tablets in the United States and worldwide, comparing consumer
and commercial market segments.
"With all the hype surrounding Apple' s unannounced
tablet product and Microsoft' s upcoming touch-enabled Windows 7 operating system,
tablet PCs are once again a hot topic," says Tom
Mainelli, senior research analyst with IDC' s Clients and Displays Group.
"Does that mean tablet PCs are finally poised for mainstream
success? We don' t think so."
