Abstract
This IDC study updates the previously published forecasts in Asia/Pacific
Branded Tape Automation 2008–2012 Forecast (IDC #AP268102Q, August 2008). It
provides a summary of the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ
tape automation market revenue and shipments in 2008 compared with
2007. The revenue and shipment figures are broken down by
country, class segment/technology, and vendor. Forecasts from 2009 to 2013
for the region as well as separate forecasts for each
of the 13 countries covered are also provided.
"The APEJ tape
automation market remained strong amid the current global economic crisis.
The market' s total revenue is expected to continue its marginal
climb as consolidation works and stricter regulatory requirements keep the
market afloat. In the long term, the tape automation market
will be adversely impacted by the growing popularity of disk-based
solutions and virtual tape libraries (VTLs). The market will witness
the inevitable consumer migration away from tape-based solutions. A clear
shift from standard small autoloaders to larger tape libraries will
ensue with growing awareness of archiving solutions and consolidation of
