According to industry statistics data by China Construction Machinery Association Excavating Machinery Branch in 2014, the cumulative sales of all types of excavators in 28 excavator manufacturers was 90,507 (including export) in the whole year of 2014, down 19.5% over the same period of last year (because of the large influence by Spring Festival in China and to keep consistent with the indexes statistics of fixed asset investment etc by National Bureau of Statistics of China, the sales in Jan. and Feb. are calculated together). In which, the total sales in the first quarter was 34,018, up 3.6% over the same period of last year, the total sales in the second quarter was 27,186, down 24.8% over the same period of last year, the total sales in the third quarter was 13,669, down 29.6% over the same period of last year, and the total sales in the fourth quarter was 15,634, down 35.0% over the same period of last year.

Overall Situation

The engineering industry has been expecting that the sales of excavator will rebound to some extent in 2015, but, events don't turn out the way industry's wishes, according to the latest authoritative statistics, in Jan.-Feb. 2015, the excavator market in China can be described as "gloomy", and the demand continued to be sluggish. Let's understand the sales in these two months by specific data.

In Jan.-Feb. 2015, the cumulative sales of mini-excavator in 27 key excavator manufacturers was 1,659, down 49.5% over 3,288 in the same period of 2014 and the market shares of foreign-funded brands and domestic brands are 51.5% and 48.5% respectively; According to statistics by Construction Machinery Online, the cumulative sales of excavator of above 6 t was 3,778, down 61.7% over 9,858 in the same period of 2014 and the market shares of foreign-funded brands and domestic brands are 56.5% and 43.5% respectively.

Sales of mini-excavator

In Feb. 2015, the cumulative sales of mini-excavator in 27 key excavator manufacturers was 718, down 69.7% over 2,366 in the same period of 2014, the brands ranking forefront include: SANY (Sales: 138, market shares: 19.2%), Caterpillar (Sales: 79, market shares: 11.0%), Kubota (Sales: 61 market shares: 8.5%), Chengdu Kobelco (Sales: 60, market shares: 8.4%), Doosan (Sales: 48, market shares: 6.7%), Yuchai Heavy Industry (Sales: 48, market shares: 6.7%). Hyundai (Sales: 42, market shares: 5.8%) and HITACHI (Sales: 32, market shares: 4.5%).

Sales of excavators of above 6 t

In Feb. 2015, the cumulative sales of excavators of above 6 t in 27 key excavator manufacturers was 1,553, down 76.7% over 6,668 in the same period of 2014. Although in consideration of Spring Festival in China, such decrease is still astonishing. According to statistics, the brands ranking forefront include: SANY (Sales: 247, market shares: 15.9%), Caterpillar (Sales: 210, market shares: 13.5%), followed by Chengdu Kobelco (Sales: 147, market shares: 9.5%), KOMATSU(Sales: 130, market shares: 8.4%), HITACHI (Sales: 109, market shares: 7.0%) and Doosan (Sales: 102, market shares: 6.6%).

The top 10 types of best-selling excavators

In Feb. 2015, the top 9 types of best-selling excavators are SY75C, SY55, SK60-8, SY60C, SK75-8, 306E2, 320D2, CLG906C and SY135C successively.

In 2014, the annual sales of excavator was 92,583, down 19% over last year (the domestic sales and export sales decreased by 19% and 20% respectively). Regionally, the growths in West South and East China were powerful, while, the growths in Inner Mongolia, Liaoning and Shanxi etc are relatively weak.
