China's opto-mechatronics industry started late, but started at a higher starting point, and Chinese government has been attaching importance to it, so opto-mechatronics technology has listed as one of key high-tech projects supported by the nation. In recent years, China's enterprises put advanced and applicable technologies into improving technical level and market competitiveness of opto-mechatronics industry, so as to optimize industrial structure and perfect industry system. After more than two decades of development, currently opto-mecharonics industrial bases have established in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Changchun, Shenzhen and Hefei etc. As of 2013, the output value of China's opto-mechatronics industry reached CNY 480 billion.

With the recovery of Chinese economy, national pillar industries, such as shipbuilding, automobile, metallurgy, aerospace, machine manufacturing, electricity, engineering machinery, petrochemical, new energy and integrated circuit industries ushered their rapid expansions again. Driven by them, the demand for laser application is increasingly strong, industry market scale has been expanding, and the market scale of opto-mechatronics industry will continue keeping rapid growth on account of China's equipment upgrading and processing technology upgrading in industries. It is estimated that annual average growth rate will be about 22% in next five years, and opto-mechatronics market scale is expected to exceed CNY1.2 trillion by the year of 2018.
