Although it may not have the cache of other more jazzy applications, ERP is the foundation for government processes and provides the data on which many citizen services depend. Vendors recognize the importance of this market and continue to invest in their ERP solutions.

Jan Duffy, EMEA Research Director, Government Insights said, "There is increasing interest in cloud-based ERP software solutions. Vendors are advised to listen carefully to what the U.K. government is saying - cloud is part of the future pretending that it isn't happening won't make it go away. Many of today's heavy, often unwieldy integrated ERP solutions can be delivered using cloud services. Similarly, government IT executives are advised to explore new deployment and delivery models, including hybrid options. Like cloud, SaaS will probably be part of a hybrid delivery model that includes on-demand services as well as other more traditional options."
