Globally the refinery industry is set to witness a growth of around 16.7% during the 2016-2020 period. The total global CDU capacity is expected to increase to over 100 mmbd by 2020. Asia is expected to lead the growth in the industry with proposed capital spending of more than US$140 billion outlined for more than 40 planned (new-build) refineries. The total capacity addition in the region is expected to be more than 5,000 mbd. Nakhodka, Okporoma, Shanghai II and Pengerang will be the top refineries in the world in terms of capital spending, while Merapoh, Lagos I and Al-Zour are expected to be the top three refineries in terms of capacity additions.

Scope

  • Refinery crude distillation unit capacity data by region for the period 2010 to 2020
