Brazil will dominate the refining capacity expansion in South America between the 2013 and 2018 period accounting for around 48% of the total increase in the capacity. The refining capacity of Brazil is expected to increase by 60.7% during the period. The refining capacity of Venezuela will also increase substantially by 24%. The annual capital expenditure for the planned refineries in South America is expected to decrease from US$15.8 billion in 2014 to US$2.3 billion in 2018, a total decrease of 86%.
