Libya and Nigeria will drive the refining capacity growth in Africa by 2018 accounting for 36% of the total increase in the capacity. Nigeria will witness the highest refining capacity addition and emerge as the largest refiner in Africa by 2018. The refining capacity of Libya, presently the second largest refiner in Africa, is expected to increase by 50.1%. The annual capital expenditure for the planned refineries in Africa is expected to decrease from US$14.5 billion in 2014 to US$12.1 billion by 2018, a total decrease of 17%.
