Abstract

Nuclear Power in Slovakia, Market Outlook to 2020, 2011 Update - Capacity, Generation, Regulations, Power Plants, Companies

Summary

Slovakia had a total installed capacity of 7,579 MW with nuclear capacity of 1,816 MW as of 2010. Nuclear energy plays a major role in the country’s electricity generation. There are four operational nuclear power reactors in Slovakia and all are of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) type. Nuclear power contribution was 49.5% of the country’s total electricity generation as of 2010 and this contribution is expected to increase with under construction, planned and proposed nuclear power reactors, which are expected to become operational in the near future. Nuclear generation in the country was about 14 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in 2010. Currently the country has two nuclear power reactors, Mochovce 3 and 4 units in under construction phase, which are expected to become operational by 2012 and 2013 respectively. The energy policy of the country focuses on nuclear safety and aid the country to ensure security of energy supply with all safety concerns.
