Abstract
Nuclear Power in Switzerland, Market Outlook to 2020, 2011 Update - Capacity, Generation, Regulations, Power Plants, Companies
Summary
Switzerland currently has a total installed capacity of 20,922 MW with nuclear capacity of 3,238 MW as of 2010. The country has five operating nuclear reactors which are of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) type. The first nuclear reactor was operated in 1969 in the country. Thereafter energy related companies in the country have aided in the growth and development of nuclear power. The nuclear generation was about 25 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) for 2010. Axpo AG, BKW FMB Energie AG, Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG and Kernkraft Gosgen-Daniken AG are some of the key players in Switzerland’s nuclear power industry. The nuclear power contribution is about 40.3% to the total electricity production. Power uprate programs were carried out for all the nuclear plants in the country over the years.
